"From architecture that is demolished and turned into waste to architecture that is recycled."
One morning, as I was waiting for the train at the station to go to work, demolition had begun on a low-rise reinforced concrete apartment building right in front of the platform.
As I counted the number of rebars visible in the cross-section of the destroyed structure, I thought to myself, "That place must be very difficult to demolish."
As an architect, I just looked at it vaguely as an extension of my daily work.
It is a sturdy building, so it cannot be demolished easily even with large heavy machinery.
As I watched this happen every morning, a question suddenly occurred to me.
A building that is still usable is demolished and turned into garbage with such great effort. Isn't there anything else that an architect should think about?
Is it possible for people to take more active role and responsibility in what they design?
With the desire to change architecture into something that can be recycled, we started with a small step and did what we could.
We are CIRCULUS. We are creating a system that gradually circulates the parts that become part of architecture.
With circular architecture as our keyword, we focused on plastic.
It is a commonly used building material and can be recycled .
Our Idea
If it is unavoidable that buildings will be demolished in a shorter period than their useful life due to changes in the social environment, we will prepare for the future in anticipation of this eventual demolition. Our idea is to produce the interior finishing materials, fixtures, and furniture that make up the architecture and space out of plastic, and have our customers use them. Then, when they are no longer usable or needed for various reasons, we will collect them, crush them, return them to their materials, remake them into new forms, and deliver them to our customers, thus circulating the architecture.
As architects and designers, we can design, but we have never actually created anything. However, it is thanks to the remarkable development of 3D printers in recent years that we are now able to create things.
We provide one-stop service from design to manufacturing.
